Welcome
Hello and welcome to fifth grade! You are going to grow by leaps-and-bounds mentally and physically this year! We learn so many incredible things in fifth grade including: long division, triple-digit by double-digit multiplication, multiplication and division of fractions--and that is just in mathematics! In science you will explore space, food chains and food webs, matter, and water. We will also read some amazing literature in our Reading Street anthology as well as the following books: Wonder, Number the Stars, The War That Saved My Life, and Holes. (You will also learn why these book titles were italicized and not underlined as we explore grammar rules.) During the first half of the year, you will complete weekly reading logs at home. After January, you will use this independent reading knowledge to transition to Literature Circles. This is where we work in small groups to read books, and complete jobs to analyze what you have read. Oh, by the way, Mrs. Moore will be teaching you Social Studies. And there will be even more excitement!!!
Although it is a new year, you can get an idea of what to expect from our activities this past year:
Past Class Events/Projects:
Reading to the Kindergarteners
Science Electricity House Project
Descriptive Writing Walk
Past Field Trips:
Sturbridge Village
Museum of Science
I truly am looking forward to a wonderful year with all of you!
